Mill Creek Curriculum

Old maps, photographs, newspaper reports, and city plans are clues to how a place evolved and what it is in the process of becoming. Historic documents about Mill Creek enabled us, together with school children and community residents, to learn how to read the neighborhood’s landscape, to trace its past, understand its present, and envision its future.

A key proposal of the West Philadelphia Landscape Project is to manage the Mill Creek watershed as part of a broad approach to improving regional water quality and as a strategy to secure funds to rebuild neighborhoods. We employ landscape literacy as a cornerstone of community development.
